The Baghdad lamp is one of Mathieu Mategot’s (1910-2001) most famous designs, created in 1954. This lamp is a Mathieu Mategot Atelier production (second half of the 20th century). More art than a lamp, this iconic lamp fuses futuristic, geometrical forms with the romance of a Middle Eastern souk, diffusing the light as if it were an orientalist lantern. Made from perforated and folded sheet metal with a brass finial and original vermilion red paint finish. The faceted form allows the lamp to stand vertically or sit at an angle. The perforated metal sheet creates beautiful light reflections.
No bend or dent. Rust stains and wear to the finish throughout. The lamp has had its electricity parts updated to fit modern standards (screw socket, brand new wire, and regular US plug).Reference: the Same model is pictured in "Mathieu Mategot" by Philippe Jousse and Caroline Mondineu - Jousse Entreprise Editions - 2003.
