Great looking 1930s wood and aluminum airplane model, mounted on a stylized wooden plinth. This German WWII medium bomber is made of cast aluminum and flies over a carved wood plinth, probably figuring a scene of The Alps mountain. The plane can swivel on the base (check pictures). The airplane is attached to the plinth by a twisted metal spring which is probably an original Heinkel 111 control wire. (A control wire is a wire that moved the ailerons on the wings and the rudder in the tail). After closer inspection, we believe the base wood is made from a broken piece of the propeller. Early airplanes had propellers made from high-quality plywood. So it would make sense that the materials used to make this model were all from wrecked Heinkel 111. And it was probably made by an engineer or ground crew member of the company. No visible maker's mark. Great desk accessory ornament for aviation collectors and lovers.
