About:
Tomado was established in 1923 by Dutch brothers Jan and Wim Van der Togt in the small town of Dordrecht. The company initially specialized in producing copper hooks and other simple homewares. By the mid-20th century, Tomado had grown to become one of Holland's leading producers of innovative products for the modern home. Tomado is a company of Dutch origin that has existed for almost 100 years and has since its beginnings produced the most diverse household items recognized for their quality, reliability, and functionality. What characterizes them above all? Their simplicity. Renowned designer Gerrit Rietveld praised it, citing Tomado as an example of Dutch design excellence. And even after a hundred years of existence, the brand still does not compromise on design and value for money.
Tomado broke through in the 1950s with its innovative shelving system.
The company surrounds itself with designers like Adriaan Dekker who will create for it these famous modular shelves. Modular and practical such was the goal for this production. Which worked well, because today it is one of the vintage classics sought after by many collectors. Beyond the iconic shelves, the company developed, during the 1950s/1960s/1970s, office accessories and modular metal furniture in the typical mid-century style.
The furniture and decorative objects created by Tomado embody both the simplicity of industrial design and the modernity of the style of the time.
